Powysland Museum is part of ‘Y Lanfa: Powysland Museum and Welshpool Library,’ Click here to find out more about Welshpool Library.
The Museum is situated mainly on the first floor, and is accessible by lift or stairs. There are 2 disabled parking bays at the front of the building.
Powysland Museum depicts the archaeology and social history of the county of Montgomeryshire.
The first gallery shows how life in mid-Wales has changed with exhibits on trades, pubs, the railway, and Laura Ashley, as well as displays about the wars and the Montgomeryshire Yeomanry.
The second gallery takes the visitor on a chronological tour of local archaeological finds from the prehistoric, the Ancient Romans to the early Medieval period. The displays include archaeological finds from locals and excavations carried out by the Clwyd-Powys Archaeological Trust.
There is an outreach programme whereby the museum can loan out its handling collection to schools, colleges, nurseries, and residential care homes.

We are in the process of moving back into Y Lanfa following a major refurbishment of the building.
We anticipate reopening the library in March this year. The museum will take a little longer to reinstall, as we have created new displays. We expect to welcome visitors back later in the spring.
