iPad lending
Borrow an iPad from Powys Libraries.
Thanks to grant funding, Powys Library Service has 125 iPads to lend out to anyone who requires one. There is no need for borrowers to have their own internet access, as each device comes with 5GB of data per month, and help sheets and hands-on assistance are provided, so you don’t need to be an expert to borrow one.
Borrowing an iPad is pretty much like borrowing a book - you will need to have a library card and live in Powys, and you can check out the iPad for four weeks before you bring it back for someone else to borrow.
How do I borrow an iPad?
If you’re interested in borrowing an iPad, or have a client that you want to refer for a loan, please contact us via email, including the library you would like to collect the iPad from.
Where can I borrow an iPad from?
We currently have iPads in various libraries across Powys. Although not all of our libraries have a dedicated stock of devices, we will always try our best to make sure that everyone has access to an iPad, no matter where in Powys they live.
What can I use the iPad for?
The short answer is, whatever you want! We are all about enabling access and breaking through the digital divide. So whether you need to attend online physio appointments, or fancy binging on Candy Crush, you do you. However, any illegal activity is, of course, not permitted.
Do I need my own internet at home?
Nope! Don’t worry if you don’t have internet access - each iPad comes with 5GB of data a month - that’ll get you around 20 hours of video calls! If you do have your own internet access, that’s great though, and means more data for other people who don’t have their own.
Can I refer a client for an iPad loan?
Of course you can! This is how our iPad lending scheme started out, and we love hearing good news stories about how our devices have helped people who really needed them. If you have a client that you want to refer for a loan, please contact us via email us, including the library you would like to collect the iPad from.
I’m not very tech-savvy - Can I still borrow an iPad?
You can! Each iPad comes with a help sheet and diagram, so you can figure your way around the device. Librarians are available to help you out in-branch if you get stuck, and you can always phone our Library Line on 01874 612394.
If you need more in-depth help, we can remote into your device (only with your permission) and see what you’re seeing, so that we can better assist you. We can also put you in touch with staff and volunteers for in-person tech sessions, when appropriate.
