y Gaer is delighted to continue its popular programme of children’s wildlife events, delivered in partnership with the Wildlife Trust of South Wales. Running during every school holiday, these engaging sessions are designed to inspire curiosity and a lifelong connection with the natural world.
Each event is structured like a relaxed classroom session, combined with plenty of hands-on activities. Children take part in guided outdoor walks, peer through microscopes, compare natural samples and carry out simple experiments while learning about the birds, animals and plants found right on our doorstep. From observing tiny minibeasts to understanding the behaviour of local wildlife, every session encourages young explorers to look more closely at nature.
Upcoming sessions and themes include:
October Half Term – 29 October 2026: Spiders and bats
Spring Half Term – 11 February 2027: Signs of Spring
Easter Break – 25 March 2027: Nesting birds and egg activities
Summer Half Term – 3 June 2027: Curlew
Summer Holidays – 5 August 2027: Reptiles
These sessions are ideal for curious children aged 7 to 12. Children under the age of 8 must be accompanied by an adult. Be prepared to touch, smell, feel and observe the fascinating wildlife growing right beneath our feet.
