Burial Authorities

Burial boards were set up under the Burial Acts of 1853. Under these Acts the local authorities were able to establish and administer their own cemeteries.

In 1894 their duties were transferred to the district and parish councils, these two bodies often joining together to form a cemetery or burial board joint committee.
