This summer, Powys Libraries invited children to step into a world of imagination with the Story Garden—the vibrant theme of this year’s Summer Reading Challenge. From magical creatures to outdoor adventures, the challenge encouraged young readers to explore nature through stories, facts, and fun.

With the help of the Biodiversity Team and their nature-focused networks, libraries hosted a dozen special events that brought the Story Garden to life. These sessions blended storytelling with hands-on nature activities, helping children connect their reading with the world around them.

Across the county, libraries ran around 100 events, welcoming enthusiastic young readers who joined in with crafts, games, and garden-themed adventures. The response was fantastic, with a strong number of children starting and completing the challenge—showing just how much Powys families value reading and creativity.

The Story Garden theme proved a hit, sparking curiosity and joy in every corner of our libraries.

A huge thank you goes out to library staff, volunteers, and biodiversity partners who helped make this summer a blooming success. The Summer Reading Challenge continues to grow strong roots in Powys, nurturing a love of reading that will flourish for years to come.
