About Builth Wells Ladies Choir

Builth Wells Ladies Choir was formed in 1974 and draws members from a wide rural locality requiring ladies to travel many miles to rehearsals every week.

We have a very talented and dedicated team of musicians who lead the choir. Musical director, Ionwen Davies joined the choir in the late 1970s enjoying singing in the soprano section of the choir until she was asked to take on the role of musical director for an interim period. 45 years later she still holds this position, sharing her enthusiasm, fun and musicality with the choristers. Our very accomplished pianist Helen Hunter joined us in 2015 and is an invaluable member of our group. Her youth and enthusiasm invigorate practice sessions, and that smile never fails to cheer us up when we are struggling to learn a new piece!

We have been very lucky in recent years to have taken part, on two occasions, in the Festival of Brass & Voices at the Royal Albert Hall, London. These events were major fundraising events for Cancer Research UK. Locally we entertain residents at Brynhyfryd Care Home in Builth & Crosfield House in Rhayader, as well as singing at weddings, funerals and fundraising concerts.

As a choir, we are like a family with characteristics to make it a success, The choir has commitment, appreciation, communication, defined roles, time to spend together, values and convictions.
