The Linarol Consort with Heloise Bernard
‘A Mermaid on a dolphin’s back’ – continental music for viols and voice from the time of William Shakespeare. The Linarol Consort of Renaissance viols is joined by soprano Heloise Bernard to explore the poetry of 14th century poet Petrarch in a concert of musical settings composed by Dufay, de Rore, di Lasso, Marenzio and other leading composers who succeeded him.
The Consort takes its name from the maker of the viola da gamba on which the instruments they play are modelled on.
Francesco Linarol was active throughout the 16th century: his only surviving instrument is in the Kunsthistorishes Museum in Vienna.
