‘Walk and Talk’ Tour: A History of Epynt Life

Join us for an informal 'Walk and Talk' tour around y Gaer's wonderful collections. 'Walk and Talk' Tours are held on the third/fourth Saturday of every month, starting promptly at 11am. Tours last 30 minutes and questions are welcome throughout. 

At the start of the second world war the war office urgently sought land on which military training exercises could be carries out. Their main requirement was a mile long stretch on which live ammunition could be fired. Mynydd Epynt and to its west Mynydd Bwlch- y – Groes, were selected and with short notice the small farming community were obliged to move.

Two hundred and nineteen farmers and their families were evicted from their homes. some families managed to find local accommodation, but others moved far away, and the community was destroyed.
