Powys school children design new library card
Around 50 children and young people across Powys got involved in a competition to design a new library card, the county council has said.
Powys Library Service recently hosted a competition for Powys children aged 4-16 years old to design the new library membership card.
The theme for the competition was 'What do Libraries in Powys mean to you?' and it was split up in to two age categories: primary school (aged 4-11), and secondary school (aged 11-16).
Winner of the primary school category - Life Taranenko, Ysgol Dolafon
Winner of the secondary school category - Poppy Thomas, Brecon High School
The winners received a signed copy of 'Dark Tales from the Wood'and 'Secret Tales from Wales' by Daniel Morden, kindly donated by the author.
The overall winner, with their design being used on the new library card for Powys, is Poppy's entry, due to its strong design, conveying a love of reading.
"The competition was a fantastic opportunity for the young people of Powys to show off their creative flair and have their talent on show across the county", said Cllr David Selby, the judge for the competition and Powys County Council's Cabinet Member for a More Prosperous Powys.
"A huge thank you to everyone that entered. There was obviously a lot of thought and creativity put into all the entries received and with such a high standard that they made judging very nearly impossible.
"I look forward to seeing the new card on show across the county."
