DESCRIPTION:Take a tour behind the scenes into the archive store where around 120\,000 individual items are housed. Located in Llandrindod Wells\, Powys Archives serves as the official repository for the records of the county of Powys (Montgomeryshire\, Radnorshire\, and Breconshire). The collections date from the 14th century and can be used for all types of research\, including tracing your family history\, discovering the history of your house\, and finding out more about the history of your village or community. \nPeruse some of the interesting items including the oldest (a deed relating to the town New Radnor dating from 1318)\, Victorian Christmas cards\, police charge books\, school log books and photograph albums. We will also showcase some of our new accessions for 2025 including the Rousham Roberts photograph collection which has been transferred to us from Radnorshire Museum. \nThe tour will be followed by refreshments and also includes a goody bag to take away. \nBooking is required for the tours\, which will run at 10.30am and 11.30am. SUMMARY:Big MPYT – Youth Theatre for ages 14-24
DESCRIPTION:Sometimes in school there seems to be a pressure to hide who you are and fit in. MPYT is a safe place to come and be the big (or small) version (or versions) of your unique selves with people who will celebrate you for being just that. MPYT offers a supportive creative ‘home’ for you as you explore your adult self\, where you will be heard and treated as an equal and be able to ask life’s big questions. You will be encouraged to explore the edges of who you are and what you are capable of with supportive friends and the best theatre making people we can get a hold of. \nThis is the core youth theatre group; the Tuesday evening workshop and session that’s been running since 1987. \nFrom January to July 2025 we are inviting award winning billingual storyteller Tamar Williams to lead some sessions and also Bethan Dear who is a theatre maker who has worked in Wales and London for 20+ years and is brilliant! Our young leaders in training Alice\, Melody and Ben (sometimes all of them\, and sometimes others like Cai and Ellis) will also be assisting the sessions too\, they are ex-members themselves and are there to welcome and support you and get you settled in.\nA typical session will involve theatre games and exercises\, devising challenges; trust & focus games; and other stuff like physical theatre; mask-work; design; puppetry; circus; singing; stage-combat… ooh\, we could go on\, but you’ll have to come and see for yourself. \nFancy joining in? The fair will be running over the weekend of September 6/7 2024 and will include artists’ stalls\, some demonstrations and workshops.\nThis will coincide with the 𝐍𝐞𝐰𝐭𝐨𝐰𝐧 𝐅𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐅𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐚𝐥\, so there will be lots to see and do! \n𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐬’ 𝐛𝐨𝐨𝐤𝐬? DESCRIPTION:Jennifer Banfield – Star Concertina bookmaking workshop \nThis workshop is an introduction to making a 𝐟𝐨𝐥𝐝𝐞𝐝 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐫 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐚 𝐛𝐨𝐨𝐤.\nIn this workshop you will learn the basics of concertina and folded books and will learn folding and 𝐛𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐧𝐢𝐪𝐮𝐞𝐬 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐥𝐲 𝐭𝐨 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐨𝐰𝐧 𝐛𝐨𝐨𝐤𝐦𝐚𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠.\nThis style of bookmaking requires few specialist tools and is ideal to get into the craft. \nParticipants can bring their own resources to transform into a book (artwork\, magazine\, photos etc) otherwise materials will be provided.\nThis workshop is suited towards beginner book makers or those new to the concertina technique. \n𝐉𝐞𝐧𝐧𝐢𝐟𝐞𝐫 𝐁𝐚𝐧𝐟𝐢𝐞𝐥𝐝 𝐢𝐬 𝐚 𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐦𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐫 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐩𝐡𝐨𝐭𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐩𝐡𝐞𝐫 who graduated from Newcastle University in 2020.\n“My practice is focused on ‘The Underground Landscape’. I work primarily in printmaking\, and photography. I utilise multiple mediums to create an encompassed experience of the underground landscape\, these include print\, photography\, drawing\, sculpture\, text and installation.
