Education & Children’s Activities Volunteer - Newtown Library
As an Education & Children’s Activities Volunteer, you will be supporting the Education & Access Officer (y Gaer)/Curatorial Team (Radnorshire Museum)/Branch Librarian (Y Lanfa and other libraries) to provide engaging workshops/activities for school parties and/or one-off and regular community family events/activities.
Tasks:
Your role may include some, or all, of the following:
Supporting the preparation and delivery of formal learning activities for school groups. This may also include working with youth groups and adults with learning difficulties.
Supporting the delivery of community family events at y Gaer and other locations.
Undertaking research tasks to help with the design of craft activities and prepare demonstration items.
Assisting with the setting up before and removal of resources after an event/activity.
Welcoming and assisting with the registration of participants at activities/events
Demonstrating individual activities and supervising small groups of children.
Taking photographs and securing permission forms from visitors/guests/activity participants.
Helping to monitor the quality of education & children’s activities through public engagement and feedback forms.
Undertaking any tasks related to children’s learning and access as may be reasonably requested by the Education and Access Officer/Curatorial Team/Branch Librarian.
Qualities:
A friendly and welcoming manner with excellent people skills.
Flexibility and creativity.
Previous experience of teaching or working with children would be an advantage.
An enhanced DBS certificate is required for this role.
Training:
Training will be provided by the Education & Access Officer/Curatorial Team/Branch Librarian. You will also need to complete online Powys County Council Fire and Health & Safety; Manual Handling and Cyber Security & GDPR Training.
Time Commitment:
For school bookings (where applicable), as required, depending on the type of booking. Regular community events/activities (e.g. Storytime for toddlers or after-school Lego Club) may take place in the daytime during the week or at weekends. One-off events/activities usually take place in the daytime during the week & at weekends during school term-time and holidays. Volunteering sessions last for approximately 1-6 hours, depending on the event/activity.
